Одно из самых ярких событий этой неделе – Mobile Word Congress и демонстрация браузера Opera Mini на iPhone. Хотя теперь ясно, что его рано называть полноценным продуктом.
Opera Mini интересен тем, что при щелчке по ссылке отправляет запрос на сервера Opera, которые пережимают страницу и возвращают ее в виде небольшого файла -обычно просто изображение с нанесенными ссылками. Это очень полезно для WAP-телефонов, которые не могут себе позволить полноценный Интернет, но имеет ли это смысл для смартфонов с 3G связью и Webkit-браузерами?
Opera заявляет, что увеличила скорость работы приложения в пять раз (что очень сомнительно). Покажите мне того, кто испытывает проблемы с Webkit-браузерами, которые и так справляются со своей работой, при этом отдают реальные веб-страницы(включая HTML5).

Стоит отметить, что Opera не представила широкой публике видео, демонстрирующее работу браузера. Но, видимо, у компании есть на это свои причины.
