После первых слухов об обновлении Маков до анонса Intel неизбежны и разговоры о новом Mac Pro с шестиядерным Xeon. Intel не планирует запуск процессоров Gulftown до марта, и Apple, по мнению MacBidouille, может использовать новые Xeon за несколько недель до официального релиза Intel.
На какой Xeon падет выбор, неизвестно, хотя французский сайт ошибочно сравнивает с ним Core i7-980X. Платформа Gulftown не связана с шестиядерными процессорами, и i7 очевидно рассчитан на энтузиастов, предлагая быструю память и отсутствие поддержки двухядерных материнских плат. Большинство аналитиков ожидают появление как минимум одной модели шестиядерного Xeon одновременно с i7-980X. У них будут разные частоты и свои особенности.
Исторически сложилось, что Apple первая получала доступ к Xeon. К примеру, компания раньше Dell и HP выпустила двухядерные 3ГГц Xeon.
Помимо процессора Apple может обновить и графику, взяв за основу линейку Radeon HD 5800 или Geforce 300- и 400-серии.
