Следующие iMac будут с процессорами Intel Core i7?

Слух о скором редизайне iMac дополнился информацией об использовании Apple мобильных процессоров Intel Core i7.

Других деталей пока не известно, но если предположить, что релиз произойдет до начала 2010 года, то это будет обозначать использование Apple четырех-ядерных процессоров Clarksfield в мобильных маках.

Модели 1.6GHz and 1.73GHz Core i7 наиболее вероятны, поскольку цены на них приблизительно равны ценам актуальной топовой линейки Core 2 Duo. 2GHz Core i7 Extreme существует, но стоимость этого процессора около 1000$ за штуку в большой партии – не самый лучший вариант для производства на заказ.

Так или иначе, их бы пришлось использовать во всех продуктах компании, что является камнем преткновения, из-за различной архитектуры. Nvidia сейчас отстранена от поддержки Core i7 с ее интегрированными графическими чипсетами из-за лицензионных разногласий. Это вынудит Apple либо использовать интегрированную графику от Intel или перейти на выделенную графику.

И по всей видимости, потребуется другой маркетинг компьютеров Apple. Хотя в большинстве случаев Core i7 быстрее чем существующие Core 2 Duo и Core 2 Quad, но их низкая тактовая частота в полном четырех-ядерном использовании подтолкнет Apple к рекламе их максимальных частот в режиме Turbo Boost. Для Apple гораздо выгоднее рекламировать 1,73Ghz чипы, работающие на частоте 3,06GHz, когда одно или больше ядер не задействованы.

Релиз предсказывают в этом месяце, но конкретные даты пока не известны.
