Vimeo вслед за YouTube переходит на HTML5

Вчера Youtube анонсировала экспериментальную версию HTML5-плеера. HTML5 – новый веб-стандарт, добавляющий браузеру некоторые функции, включая возможность воспроизведения аудио и видео. Сегодня Vimeo представила свой HTML5-эксперимент.

Любой пользователь с совместимым браузером (прямо сейчас это Safari или Chrome), который поддерживает аудио и видео кодеки, сможет запустить видео без загрузки плагина. Сейчас HTML5-плеер работает только с сайта Vimeo.com (видео, представленное далее – это интегрированный в страницу флеш).

Брэд Даугерти объясняет: “Сегодня мы начали бета-тестирование HTML5-плеера!  Что такое HTML5-плеер, спросите Вы? Это альтернатива текущему Flash-плееру, которая работает и выглядит практически так же”.

Какие выгоды HTML5:

  • Мгновенная загрузка плеера.
  • Возможность перехода к любой части видео, без ожидания буферизации.
  • Значительное снижение нагрузки на процессор.
  • Более плавное и равномерное воспрозведение видео.

Разработчик также уточнил: “Почти 90% видео, загруженного в прошлом году, будет работать в новом плеере. Некоторые говорят о том, что 35% видеороликов требуют Flash-плеер. Vimeo автоматически переключатся на удобный для Вас формат, поэтому видео будет работать всегда”.

Непосредственно сейчас у нового стандарта несколько недостатков:

  • Видео работает только для 25% пользователей с последней версией Safari, Chrome или IE с Chrome Frame.
  • Нет полного экрана. К сожалению, это ограничение самих браузеров. Работы по добавлению поддержки полноэкранного режима ведутся.

Для активации HTML5-плеера, щелкните на ссылку “Switch to HTML5 player” внизу страницы с любым видеороликом на Vimeo.com.

Вопрос о будущем Adobe Flash остается открытым…
